The second Ottoman siege of Missolonghi in 1823 was the second attempt to capture the strategically located port town during the third year of the Greek War of Independence. Its historical profile is minimal: the engagement is typically overlooked in accounts of the conflict, and the designation 'Second Siege of Missolonghi' is more commonly applied to the far larger and more consequential siege of 1825–1826. The Greek force numbered approximately 3,500 men under commanders including Kitsos Tzavellas and Konstantinos Metaxas, facing an Ottoman command that included Omer Vrioni and Mustafa Pasha Bushatli. Beyond the broad outline of a failed Ottoman attempt to take the town, the engagement left little recorded mark on the wider campaign.
