Second Battle of Rellano

Overview

The Second Battle of Rellano of 22 May 1912 was an engagement of the Mexican Revolution between rebel forces under Pascual Orozco and government troops under General Victoriano Huerta, at the railroad station of Rellano, Chihuahua. The battle was a setback for Orozco, who had defeated another government army at the First Battle of Rellano in March of the same year.

Significance

The Second Battle of Rellano reversed the outcome of the First Battle of Rellano fought just months earlier in March 1912, where Orozco had defeated a government force at the same railroad station in Chihuahua. The May engagement marked a setback for Orozco's rebellion, halting the momentum his forces had gained from that earlier victory. With government troops under Huerta and Villa checking the Orozquista advance, the battle represented a shift in the federal campaign to suppress the rebellion that had threatened government control of Chihuahua during the Mexican Revolution.
