Battle context

Operation 1027, launched on 27 October 2023, marked a significant escalation in the Myanmar Civil War as the Three Brotherhood Alliance—comprising the Arakan Army, Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army, and Ta'ang National Liberation Army—mounted a coordinated offensive against the Tatmadaw, Myanmar's ruling military junta. With a combined force of approximately 20,000 fighters, the Alliance imposed substantial casualties on State Administration Council forces, with junta losses recorded at 3,783 against roughly 1,000 on the Alliance side. The operation demonstrated that a coalition of ethnic armed organisations, acting in concert with other rebel forces, could sustain a large-scale, ongoing offensive against the Tatmadaw, challenging the junta's military dominance across contested regions of the country. As an ongoing offensive, Operation 1027 shifted the operational momentum in the civil war and underscored the capacity of coordinated ethnic armed resistance to erode State Administration Council control.
