The Miljevci Plateau incident marked a significant early test of the Vance plan framework during the Croatian War of Independence. Fought in June 1992, the battle arose in the so-called pink zones—territory controlled by the Republic of Serbian Krajina but situated outside the UN Protected Areas formally established under the Vance plan. The clash came as UNPROFOR was still deploying, and the engagement exposed the ambiguity built into the ceasefire and peacekeeping architecture: Croatian and RSK forces continued to contest areas that fell outside direct UN oversight, undermining the assumption that the plan's protected zones would stabilize the broader front. As the culmination of a series of preceding skirmishes in Northern Dalmatia, the battle demonstrated that the boundaries drawn by the Vance plan left unresolved a category of contested ground whose status neither side accepted.
