The Lvov–Sandomierz offensive was a major Soviet operation launched in mid-July 1944 with the objective of clearing German forces from Ukraine and Eastern Poland. The operation involved over one million Soviet troops against a substantially smaller German force and was successfully completed by the end of August 1944.
