The Kazan Operation represented a critical Red Army effort to dislodge the Czechoslovak Legion and the People's Army of Komuch from the city of Kazan during the Russian Civil War. Control of Kazan carried strategic weight in the broader struggle between Bolshevik forces and anti-Bolshevik factions: the city sat on the Volga and served as a key node in the contest for the eastern front of the civil war.
