The First Battle of Torreón, fought September 27 to October 1, 1913, saw Constitutionalist forces under Pancho Villa seize a city held by Huertist federal troops under Eutiquio Munguia. The outcome was Villa's first major engagement of the Mexican Revolution, and it carried immediate material and political consequences. The capture delivered substantial military equipment that the Constitutionalist cause urgently needed, directly strengthening Villa's capacity to continue operations. Beyond the material gain, the victory sharply elevated Villa's standing within the revolutionary movement, establishing him as a commander capable of taking and holding a defended urban center against a conventional federal garrison.
