The First Battle of Swat marked an early direct military confrontation between Pakistani government forces and the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) for control of Swat District. Pakistani forces, numbering between 3,000 and 5,000, engaged a TTP contingent of approximately 1,000 fighters under Fazlullah. TTP casualties ranged from 143 to 290.
