First Battle of Grodno

Battle context

The First Battle of Grodno resulted in Russian forces capturing the city of Grodno following three days of fighting during the summer 1920 phase of the Polish–Soviet War. Polish forces, numbering around 3,000, mounted repeated counter-attacks using infantry, tanks, and armoured trains but were unable to hold the city against the Soviet advance. The fall of Grodno represented a further gain for Soviet forces during their westward offensive, pressing Polish defensive capacity along this sector of the front.
