Capture of Lachin

Significance

The Battle of Lachin was an Azerbaijani military operation during the First Nagorno-Karabakh War aimed at recapturing the Lachin corridor, which had been under the control of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic's forces since 18 May 1992. The corridor held strategic importance as the primary land link between Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh, making its control a central objective for both sides. Azerbaijan committed its National Army, commanded by Surat Huseynov and Dadash Rzayev, to contest the corridor in what the sources describe as one of the fiercest engagements in that direction during the autumn phase of the conflict.
