Battle context

The Battle of Yataytí Corá was an engagement during the Paraguayan War fought on Paraguayan territory, where Argentine forces under President and General Bartolomé Mitre defeated the Paraguayan side. The battle represented part of the Allied advance into Paraguay itself, bringing the war onto Paraguayan soil and pressing the forces of Francisco Solano López under continued military pressure. With Paraguay fielding a recorded force of 2,500 troops, the engagement reflects the scale of resistance mounted as Allied armies pushed deeper into the country during the 1866 campaign season.
