The Battle of Vítkov Hill, fought on June 21, 1420, was a decisive Hussite victory against the forces of King Sigismund during the early phase of the Hussite Wars. Sigismund commanded a crusading force of seven thousand to eight thousand men, supported by commanders including Pippo Spano and Oldřich of Boskovice, while the Hussite defense was led by Jan Žižka. The battle was fought on Vítkov Hill at the edge of Prague, placing the defense of the city itself directly at stake. The Hussite victory secured Prague against Sigismund's attempt to assert control and demonstrated that the crusading force could be repelled by Hussite arms, reinforcing the movement's capacity to resist imperial pressure in the opening years of the conflict.
