Battle of Vidattaltivu

Significance

The 58 Division's capture of Vidattaltivu during Eelam War IV ended 21 years of LTTE control over the town. According to the Sri Lankan Ministry of Defence, Vidattaltivu had served as the primary base for LTTE maritime operations and as a key logistics hub. Its fall was characterized by the ministry as a "fatal blow" to the organization, disrupting the sea-based supply and operational infrastructure that had underpinned LTTE activity in the northern theatre. The battle was part of the broader government offensive that progressively dismantled LTTE-held territory during the final phase of the civil war.
