Battle context
The Battle of Tweebosch, fought in March 1902 during the final months of the Second Boer War, saw a Boer commando under Koos de la Rey defeat a British column commanded by Lord Methuen. With a force roughly half the size of the Boer strength, the British column suffered substantial casualties. The engagement demonstrated that Boer commanders retained the capacity to deliver tactical defeats against British columns even as the broader war moved toward conclusion, complicating British efforts to suppress remaining guerrilla resistance in the field.
