The Battle of the Eurymedon, also known as the Battle of Side took place in August 190 BC. It was fought as part of the Roman–Seleucid War, pitting the fleets of Rhodes under admiral Eudamus against a Seleucid fleet of Hannibal.

Significance

The Battle of the Eurymedon, also known as the Battle of Side, was a naval engagement fought in August 190 BC during the Roman–Seleucid War, in which a Rhodian fleet under admiral Eudamus faced a Seleucid fleet commanded by Hannibal. The engagement formed part of the broader maritime dimension of the Roman–Seleucid War, a conflict that ultimately ended Seleucid power in Asia Minor and established Roman dominance over the eastern Mediterranean. Rhodes was a key naval ally in this theater, and Hannibal's command of a Seleucid fleet reflected the strategic importance both sides attached to control of Aegean and southern Anatolian waters during the war.
