Significance

The Battle of the Beaufort was one of the first engagements of the 1982 Lebanon War, fought on the opening day of the Israeli invasion of Lebanon. The IDF's capture of Beaufort Castle from the PLO marked an early Israeli objective achieved at the outset of the campaign. The castle, a historic fortification in Lebanon, held strategic value as a PLO position, and its seizure by forces under Moshe Kaplinsky represented an initial consolidation of Israeli military momentum in the early hours of the war.
