The Battle of Tacuarembó was fought between Luso-Brazilian forces commanded by the Count of Figueira and the Artiguist forces of Andrés Latorre in the territory of modern-day Uruguay. Federal League casualties reached over 1,000, against a Luso-Brazilian force that numbered up to 4,000. The engagement took place during the Portuguese campaign to seize the Banda Oriental from the Artiguist confederation, and the scale of Federal League losses points to a decisive blow against the resistance organized under José Artigas's movement in the region.
