The Battle of Stoczek was the first significant engagement of the November Uprising, marking the opening of large-scale field operations between Polish and Russian forces. Fought near Stoczek Łukowski along the Brest–Warsaw road, it demonstrated that Polish forces could meet and repel Russian regulars in open combat, driving off two regiments of Russian mounted Jaegers and inflicting casualties estimated between 230 and 400 on the Russian side. As the uprising's first notable action, the result carried early symbolic weight for the Polish cause, establishing that the insurrection could sustain organized military resistance rather than collapsing before Russian strength at the outset.
