Battle of Sorovich

Battle context

The Battle of Sorovich was fought in western Macedonia during the First Balkan War as the Greek 5th Division advanced through the region separately from the main Army of Thessaly. Outnumbered by roughly three to one—with Greek forces numbering around 7,080 against an Ottoman force of approximately 20,000 under Hasan Rıza Pasha—the division came under attack near Zabardeni and withdrew to Sorovich. The engagement illustrates the exposed character of independent Greek advances through western Macedonia during this phase of the war, where detached formations could find themselves isolated and heavily outnumbered before the main army could provide support. Greek casualties of between 168 and 196 reflect the pressure the division sustained in this defensive situation.
