The Battle of Semarang, known in Indonesia as Pertempuran Lima Hari, stands as the first major clash involving the Indonesian military during the Indonesian National Revolution. Fought between Japanese forces of the Sixteenth Army and Indonesian forces comprising People's Security Agency personnel and pemuda, the engagement at Semarang in Central Java marked a formative moment in the nascent revolutionary struggle. With approximately 7,000 Indonesian fighters committed to the battle and 2,000 casualties sustained, the scale of losses underscored the severity of the confrontation and the costs of organized armed resistance in the early weeks following the declaration of independence.
