The Battle of Sehested, fought near Sehested in Holstein, saw a Danish army under Prince Frederik of Hesse defeat a Coalition force led by Ludwig von Wallmoden-Gimborn, inflicting over 1,100 casualties while suffering only around 500. The engagement demonstrated that Danish forces could hold their own tactically against Coalition opponents during the Dano-Swedish War of 1813–1814. Despite the local success, the victory carried no strategic weight sufficient to alter the wider trajectory of the war: the Coalition prevailed in the conflict in 1814, leaving Sehested as an isolated battlefield success that failed to translate into any lasting operational or political advantage for Denmark–Norway.
