Battle context

The Battle of Şarköy was part of a coordinated Ottoman counter-attack during the First Balkan War, fought between Bulgaria and the Ottoman Empire in February 1913. The Ottoman forces, numbering nearly 20,000 men and led by Enver Pasha, suffered over 1,800 casualties and were defeated by Bulgarian forces under Stiliyan Kovachev. The defeat at Şarköy, alongside the concurrent Bulgarian success at Bulair, neutralized the Ottoman counter-offensive and reinforced Bulgarian operational dominance in the broader campaign.
