Battle context

The Battle of Rodeo del Chacón, fought at Potrero de Chacón on 28 March 1831, resulted in a Federalist victory under General Facundo Quiroga over Unitarian forces commanded by José Videla Castillo. The engagement was part of the broader Argentine Civil Wars between Unitarian and Federalist factions. Quiroga, one of the most prominent Federalist caudillos of the period, secured a win against a Unitarian force numbering between 1,000 and 2,500 men, with Federalist casualties recorded at 120. The battle contributed to Federalist military dominance in the interior during this phase of the conflict.
