Battle context
The Battle of Roßbrunn was the final engagement of the Main Campaign in the Austro-Prussian War, fought on 26 July 1866 near Roßbrunn, Uettingen, and Hettstadt. As the last battle of the campaign, it marked the close of active Prussian operations against Bavaria on the Main front. Both sides sustained casualties, with recorded losses in the hundreds on each side. Its position as the concluding action of the Main Campaign gives it a definitive place in the arc of the 1866 war, representing the end of Bavarian resistance in that theater before the broader settlement of the conflict.
