Battle context

The Battle of Rincón de Valladares was fought near San Miguel de Tucumán between Federalist forces under Facundo Quiroga and Unitarian forces under Governor Gregorio Aráoz de Lamadrid. Quiroga's victory had immediate political consequences: Lamadrid was forced to resign and go into exile in Bolivia, transferring control of Tucumán Province to the Federalists. The outcome extended Federalist influence into the northwest, demonstrating Quiroga's capacity to convert battlefield success into direct changes in provincial governance during the broader struggle between Federalist and Unitarian factions that defined the Argentine Civil Wars.
