Significance
The Battle of Qbaada, fought at the site of present-day Krasnaya Polyana, is widely accepted as the final military engagement of the Russo-Circassian War, the concluding phase of the broader Caucasian War. Facing an Imperial Russian force of 250,000 against a Circassian strength of 20,000, the engagement ended Circassian organized resistance. With all 20,000 Circassian combatants recorded as casualties, the battle marked the point at which the Circassian people could no longer sustain military opposition to Russian imperial expansion. Its outcome brought the Caucasian War — a conflict spanning more than a century — to a close, cementing Russian control over the western Caucasus.
