The Battle of Peta was fought on a hillside near the village of Peta in Epirus on 16 July 1822, pitting a Greek force of approximately 2,100 under Alexandros Mavrokordatos and Markos Botsaris against an Ottoman force of 6,000–8,000 under Omer Vrioni. Despite the disparity in numbers, Greek casualties were reported at around 200 against roughly 1,000 Ottoman losses. The engagement was part of the broader Greek War of Independence and took place in the Epirus theater, where control of the western mainland remained contested. The battle involved a notably multinational Greek command, including European philhellene officers such as Karl von Normann-Ehrenfels and Franciszek Mierzejewski, reflecting the international dimension of Greek revolutionary efforts during this period.
