The Battle of Pampa Germania was a cavalry engagement within the Tarapacá campaign of the War of the Pacific, fought on November 6, 1879. Chilean forces under Lieutenant Colonel José Francisco Vergara struck the Peruvian cavalry commanded by Lieutenant Colonel José Buenaventura Sepúlveda, who was operating in the rear of the allied army as it marched toward Dolores. By targeting the rearguard at Pampa Germania near Agua Santa, the Chilean cavalry disrupted the allied column at a critical moment in the Tarapacá campaign, removing a protective screen from the retreating allied force and demonstrating Chilean offensive initiative in the broader contest for the Tarapacá region.
