The Battle of Pälkjärvi was an engagement during the Finnish War in which Swedish forces under Karl Wilhelm Malm pressed Russian forces commanded by Ilya Alekseyev at the municipality of Pälkjärvi. Although the result is not formally recorded, the Russian commander concluded his position was untenable and ordered a withdrawal after finding himself encircled. Alekseyev's detachment broke out of the encirclement, preserving his force of approximately 1,300 men. The engagement illustrates the fluid character of operations in the Finnish War, where encirclement threats and night attacks shaped tactical decisions even when neither side achieved a decisive outcome.
