The Battle of Paardeberg was a major engagement of the Second Boer War, fought near Paardeberg Drift on the Modder River in the Orange Free State near Kimberley. A British force of approximately 15,000 faced a Boer force of around 7,000 under Piet Cronjé, with Boer casualties recorded at over 4,000.
