The Battle of Nui Bop was a French victory fought to clear Qing forces from the area around the French forward base at Chu. Commanded by François de Négrier against Wang Debang's forces, the engagement served as an essential preliminary operation before the Lang Son Campaign of February 1885. By dislodging the Qing position and securing the forward base, the battle set the operational conditions for the subsequent French advance into the Lang Son corridor during the broader Sino-French War.
