The Battle of Noisseville on 31 August 1870 resulted in a Prussian victory under Prince Friedrich Karl against French forces commanded by François Bazaine. Despite French numerical superiority — nearly 96,000 troops against a Prussian force of 69,000 — Prussia inflicted heavier casualties proportionally and held the field. The engagement occurred within the broader Franco-Prussian War context in which Bazaine's Army of the Rhine was under increasing pressure around Metz.
