The Battle of Nietjärvi, fought on July 15, 1944, resulted in a Finnish victory against a Soviet force roughly three times the size of the defending Finnish units. With Finland fielding approximately 5,000 troops under Kustaa Tapola against some 15,000 Soviet soldiers commanded by Alexey Krutikov, the outcome demonstrated Finnish capacity to inflict disproportionate losses — Soviet casualties reached approximately 2,200 — despite numerical disadvantage.
