The Battle of Montserrat was a minor engagement in Catalonia during the Peninsular War, fought near the Santa Maria de Montserrat Monastery some 36 kilometres northwest of Barcelona. A Spanish irregular force under Baron de Eroles, numbering approximately 1,500, contested the position against two Imperial French divisions under Marshal Suchet totaling around 10,000 men. Spanish casualties exceeded French losses, reflecting the disparity in force strength. The action illustrates the character of the Catalan theater during this period, where Spanish irregulars repeatedly challenged French control of strategically and symbolically significant terrain rather than seeking to hold it through conventional means.
