The Battle of Mishmar HaEmek was a ten-day engagement fought in April 1948 between the Arab Liberation Army under Fawzi al-Qawuqji and Haganah forces under Yitzhak Sadeh and Dan Laner. Al-Qawuqji initiated the attack with the objective of seizing the kibbutz, which held a strategically significant position alongside the main road connecting Jenin and Haifa. Control of that corridor carried direct operational weight for movement and supply across the region ahead of the end of the British Mandate and the formal outbreak of the 1948 Arab–Israeli War. The battle thus represented one of the Arab Liberation Army's major offensive efforts during the civil war phase of the conflict, targeting infrastructure and settlement control rather than purely symbolic ground.
