The Battle of Mława was one of the opening engagements of the German invasion of Poland, fought from 1 to 3 September 1939 north of the town of Mława in northern Poland. The Polish Modlin Army under General Krukowicz-Przedrzymirski faced the German 3rd Army under General Georg von Küchler. Despite inflicting higher casualties on the attacking German forces—1,800 German dead or wounded against approximately 1,200 Polish—the engagement took place within the broader collapse of Polish defensive lines that characterized the early phase of the invasion. As one of the first battles of World War II, it illustrated the immediate pressure Polish forces faced across multiple fronts from the war's opening hours.
