The Battle of Maella on October 1, 1838 was a Carlist victory in the Aragonese theater of the First Carlist War. Despite being outnumbered — Carlist forces numbered roughly 3,500 infantry and 500 cavalry against a Liberal force of approximately 5,000 infantry and 300 cavalry — Ramon Cabrera's troops routed most of the Liberal army under Ramón Pardiñas, inflicting casualties of over 3,100 on a force that had entered the engagement with numerical superiority. The scale of Liberal losses relative to their total strength indicates a near-destruction of the opposing force, demonstrating Cabrera's capacity to conduct effective offensive operations in Aragon and undermining Liberal control in the region during a critical phase of the war.
