Battle context
The Battle of Los Horcones was fought as part of the Admirable Campaign, the rapid patriot offensive that sought to recapture Caracas from Royalist control. Patriot forces under José Félix Ribas, numbering roughly half the strength of the opposing Royalist column, defeated troops under colonel Francisco Oberto on the plain of Los Horcones. The victory yielded more than 300 prisoners and much of the Spanish equipment, materially weakening Royalist forces in the field and reinforcing the momentum of the broader campaign.
