The Battle of Le Mans on December 13, 1793 resulted in catastrophic losses for the Vendéen forces, with casualties numbering as many as the entire Vendéen force engaged. The Republican army, fielding 20,000 troops against a Vendéen force of 15,000, inflicted losses that severely degraded the capacity of the Vendéen insurgency to continue sustained operations.
