The Battle of Langnes was fought between Norwegian and Swedish forces during the Swedish-Norwegian War of 1814, with Norway fielding approximately 2,000 troops against a Swedish force of around 3,000. Though the engagement ended without a decisive result, it functioned as a tactical victory for the Norwegians: by holding their position and avoiding destruction or unconditional capitulation, Norwegian forces preserved their negotiating standing within the broader conflict. In a war where Swedish military superiority was pronounced, the ability to deny Sweden a clean military resolution gave Norway leverage that an outright defeat would have foreclosed.
