Battle context

The Battle of Landeshut on June 23, 1760 was a sharp engagement in the Seven Years' War in which an Austrian force of 28,000 under Ernst von Laudon met a Prussian force of 12,000 under Heinrich August de la Motte Fouqué. The disparity in casualties — 2,963 Austrian against 10,242 Prussian — points to a severe Prussian defeat, with Prussian losses amounting to roughly 85 percent of the engaged force. Such an outcome would have materially reduced Prussian operational capacity in the theater at a stage of the war when Prussia was already under sustained pressure from multiple fronts.
