Battle context
The Battle of Kulevicha was a Russian victory in the Ninth Russo-Turkish War (1828–1829), secured under the command of Hans Karl von Diebitsch against a substantially larger Ottoman force. Russian forces numbering approximately 28,000 defeated an Ottoman army of around 40,000, inflicting roughly 5,000 Ottoman casualties against Russian losses of approximately 2,000. The outcome affirmed Russian operational momentum in the conflict and contributed to the broader pressure on the Ottoman Empire that characterized the later phase of the war.
