The Battle of Korçë was fought between the Italian 9th Army, defending the town, and the attacking Greek III Army Corps during the Greco-Italian War of 1940–41. Korçë held particular operational importance as the main base of operations for the Italian Air Force in the theater, making its capture or defense a significant objective beyond the town itself. The engagement produced substantial casualties on both sides — 1,200 Italian and 2,348 Greek — reflecting the intensity of the fighting.
