The Battle of Konya was a decisive Egyptian victory over the Ottoman Empire during the First Egyptian-Ottoman War, fought just outside the city of Konya. Despite commanding a force of roughly 65,000 against an Egyptian army of 30,000, the Ottomans suffered some 3,000 casualties and were defeated under Reşid Mehmed Pasha by Ibrahim Pasha's forces. The outcome reflected the broader military gap between the two powers: Muhammad Ali had undertaken substantial modernization of the Egyptian army and economy, while the Ottoman Empire had not kept pace. The victory opened Ottoman Anatolia to further Egyptian advance and demonstrated that the empire could not suppress Muhammad Ali's ambitions through conventional military force alone, setting the stage for the diplomatic and great-power interventions that would ultimately conclude the war.
