Battle of Kakarong de Sili

Battle context

The Battle of Kakarong de Sili, fought on January 1, 1897, at Pandi, Bulacan, resulted in a Spanish assault on the Kakarong Republic and a heavy loss of Katipunan fighters, with roughly 1,000 casualties among a force of 6,000. The fall of the fort at Pandi and the capture of General Eusebio Roque effectively ended the Kakarong Republic, which had been considered the first republic established in Bulacan and in the Philippines. Its destruction represented an early Spanish success in suppressing organized revolutionary governance during the Philippine Revolution, eliminating one of the nascent republican structures the Katipunan had attempted to establish outside of Manila and demonstrating the vulnerability of fixed defensive positions to coordinated Spanish counterinsurgency operations in the early months of the revolt.
