Battle context
The Battle of Jahra was the central engagement of the Kuwait–Najd War, bringing the ruler of Kuwait, Sheikh Salem Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah, into direct confrontation with the Ikhwan forces under Faisal al-Duwaish of the Mutayr tribe. Despite deploying a force estimated at three to four thousand fighters against a Kuwaiti force of comparable or smaller size, the Ikhwan failed to capture Jahra village, suffering what the sources describe as a costly defeat. The battle checked the Ikhwan advance on Kuwait's western approaches and prevented the fall of a position lying directly west of Kuwait City. Sheikh Salem's withdrawal into the Red Palace, where his remaining forces fortified themselves, indicates the engagement left the Kuwaiti position precarious even in repelling the assault, underlining the narrow margin by which the Ikhwan offensive was contained at Jahra.
