The Battle of Hlobane was fought at Hlobane, near the modern town of Vryheid in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, during the Anglo-Zulu War of 1879. British forces under Evelyn Wood suffered 225 casualties against a Zulu force that included commanders Mbilini waMswati and Mnyamana Buthelezi, with Zulu strength recorded at approximately 25,000. The engagement formed part of the broader British campaign following the disaster at Isandlwana earlier in the war and represented a significant tactical setback for Wood's column, which had been operating as one of the more effective British formations in the conflict.
