The Battle of Grunwald was the decisive engagement of the Polish–Lithuanian–Teutonic War, fought on 15 July 1410 between the allied forces of the Crown of the Kingdom of Poland and the Grand Duchy of Lithuania against the Teutonic Order. The alliance, led by King Władysław II Jagiełło and Grand Duke Vytautas, inflicted a comprehensive defeat on the Teutonic Order under Grand Master Ulrich von Jungingen. The destruction of the Order's leadership cadre — with most senior commanders killed or taken prisoner, including von Jungingen himself — represented a decapitation of the Order's military and administrative command. The scale of the defeat left the Teutonic Order without the leadership necessary to mount an effective continued resistance, marking a decisive shift in the balance of power between the Order and the Polish-Lithuanian alliance within the wider conflict.
