The Battle of Glođane, fought twice in 1998, reflected the broader Yugoslav and Serbian security effort to roll back KLA presence in Kosovo Albanian villages. The August 11 engagement was part of a sequence of military offensives by Yugoslav army and Serbian police forces responding to the KLA's expanding foothold across the region. These clashes, involving commanders on both sides including Ramush Haradinaj for the KLA, illustrated the contested nature of village-level control that defined much of the 1998 phase of the Kosovo War before NATO intervention in 1999.
