The Battle of Fallen Timbers ended the Northwest Indian War, resolving the contest between the United States and the Northwestern Confederacy for control of the Northwest Territory. As the final engagement of the conflict, its outcome determined the political and territorial fate of the region. The confrontation drew forces of approximately 3,000 on the American side against roughly 1,300 fighters of the Northwestern Confederacy, a disparity that reflected the sustained buildup of U.S. military capacity following earlier reverses in the war. The battle's conclusion foreclosed the Confederacy's ability to contest American expansion into the Northwest Territory, settling a struggle that had defined the region's political status throughout the preceding decade.
